Live in Virginia. Bob holds degrees from Wheaton, Asbury Seminary, and St. John’s College, University of Nottingham, England. He has also studied at Garrett Theological Seminary and the Institute for Holy Land Studies. Ordained in 1966 through the United Methodist Church, he has served as a university chaplain and as a pastor of congregations across the USA. Ellen, who is Dutch born, received her RN from the academic Hospital of Utrecht. She had anticipated doing missionary work, but God had other plans. In 1967 she was asked by Corrie ten Boom (a Dutch Christian Holocaust survivor who helped many Jews escape the Nazis during World War II, and author of The Hiding Place) to become her nurse, secretary and traveling companion. Ellen has written My Years with Corrie, an account of their life and travels together. After serving with Corrie for more than eight years, Ellen met Bob. They married in 1976 and Ellen became and integral part of Bob’s chaplaincy work at Oral Roberts University. For over 30 years Ellen and Bob have served the Lord together. Presently Bob teaches theology at Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology/Virginia Union University, Richmond Virginia. He has written theological texts (The Sacrament of the Word Made Flesh: The Eucharistic Theology of Thomas F. Torrance, published in 2007), is the author of several published hymns, is a connoisseur of great music, and a student of the American Civil War. Ellen loves swimming, dancing, listening to music, and spending time with their son and daughter. Next autum they will be in Kentucky where Bob will return to teach full time at Asbury Seminary, Wilmore, and to share responsibility as "Dean of the Chapel" there. |
